Leading change program

ENABLING LEADERS TO LEAD CHANGE WITH CLARITY, ADAPTABILITY, AND IMPACT ‍

Program overview

The Leading Change Program is designed to strengthen the capability of leaders to effectively guide individuals and teams through periods of organisational transition and uncertainty. In increasingly dynamic environments, leaders are required
to navigate not only the operational aspects of change, but also the human responses and emotional impacts that accompany it.

The program explores both the practical and human dynamics of change, enabling participants to better understand how people experience uncertainty, resistance, disruption, and loss. Leaders develop insight into the behavioural and emotional responses that often emerge during periods of transition and strengthen their ability to lead others with empathy, clarity, and confidence.

DEVELOPING LEADERSHIP CAPABILITY TO NAVIGATE CHANGE AND UNCERTAINTY

Through practical tools, frameworks, and applied learning experiences, participants strengthen their capability to communicate change effectively, manage resistance constructively, and create alignment during times of transition. Leaders explore strategies that support engagement, resilience, and sustainable implementation across teams and organisations.

The learning experience is highly practical and grounded in real organisational challenges. Participants apply leadership concepts directly to workplace change initiatives, strengthening their ability to lead change in ways that support both organisational outcomes and positive people experiences.

PROGRAM delivery

The Leading Change Program is delivered using the Australian Leadership Academy’s blended, experiential learning approach, combining self-paced prework, high-impact facilitated workshops, applied application, and reflective learning. This structured approach ensures participants arrive prepared, maximise in-session learning, and actively apply leadership capability within their own organisational context throughout the learning journey. Each stage is intentionally designed to progressively build capability while reinforcing practical workplace application and sustained leadership impact.

LEADING CHANGE
WITH EMPATHY, CLARITY, AND
ADAPTIVE LEADERSHIP

Program structure

Note: The program structure above is a draft delivery option. The Australian Leadership Academy can design a bespoke
Leading Change Program tailored to meet the specific needs of your organisation.

  • Participants begin the program with a curated set of prework activities designed to introduce key change leadership concepts and encourage early reflection on current organisational challenges and transitions. This includes short readings, video content, and guided questions focused on leadership responses to change, uncertainty, resistance, and team dynamics.

  • The program formally commences with a live, facilitator-led virtual session. This interactive introduction establishes the learning environment, outlines program expectations, and introduces the foundations of leading change effectively within organisational environments. Participants begin exploring the human and practical dynamics of change and the role leaders play in supporting individuals and teams through transition.

  • Participants complete targeted prework designed to deepen awareness of current workplace change challenges and leadership responses. This includes reflective exercises, workplace observation activities, and preparation of real organisational change scenarios participants will bring into the workshop for discussion and application.

  • A highly interactive, face-to-face learning experience focused on understanding the foundations of Adaptive Leadership and navigating complexity within organisational systems. Participants explore technical versus adaptive challenges, systems thinking, stakeholder dynamics, and the concept of “getting on the balcony” to gain broader leadership perspective. Through facilitated discussion, practical activities, peer learning, and workplace application exercises, participants strengthen their capability in diagnosing challenges, managing competing priorities, and responding effectively during periods of uncertainty and change.

  • Participants complete reflective and application-focused activities linked to the implementation of Workshop 1 learning within their workplace context. The prework encourages leaders to reflect on current change initiatives, team responses, communication approaches, and opportunities to apply change leadership principles more intentionally and effectively.

  • The second workshop builds on foundational learning and focuses on strengthening the leadership behaviours and strategies required to lead sustainable change over time. Participants deepen their capability in navigating resistance, maintaining engagement, supporting resilience, and creating alignment during ongoing transition and uncertainty. The workshop includes practical frameworks, facilitated discussion, and applied leadership activities designed to support sustainable behavioural change and long-term leadership effectiveness during organisational change.

PROGRAM IMPACT

The Leading Change Program strengthens leadership capability to effectively guide individuals and teams through transition, uncertainty, and organisational change. Participants develop greater confidence in leading change initiatives while strengthening their ability to communicate clearly, respond empathetically, and maintain alignment during periods of disruption.

The program supports leaders to move beyond reactive approaches to change and develop more intentional, people-focused leadership capability. Participants strengthen their ability to manage resistance constructively, support team resilience, and create environments where people feel informed, supported, and engaged throughout the change process.

At an organisational level, the program contributes to stronger change leadership capability, improved team engagement, increased adaptability, and more sustainable organisational outcomes. Leaders are better equipped to create workplace cultures that can respond effectively to change while maintaining trust, collaboration, and performance.
