ENABLING LEADERS TO COMMUNICATE WITH CLARITY, CONFIDENCE, AND INFLUENCE

Program overview

The Leading with Interpersonal Communication Program is designed to strengthen the capability of leaders to communicate with greater clarity, intent, and influence across a range of workplace situations. Effective leadership communication is critical to building trust, creating alignment, strengthening relationships, and supporting high-performing teams. This program equips leaders with practical communication skills that improve understanding, engagement, and leadership effectiveness.

Grounded in practical leadership application, the program introduces participants to contemporary communication models and frameworks that support effective interpersonal communication within organisational environments. Leaders develop greater awareness of how communication styles, behaviours, and approaches influence relationships, team dynamics, and workplace outcomes.

EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION

Program structure

Note: The program structure above is a draft delivery option. The Australian Leadership Academy can design a bespoke
Leading with Interpersonal Communication Program tailored to meet the specific needs of your organisation.

  • Participants begin their program with a curated set of prework activities designed to introduce key concepts related to interpersonal communication, leadership presence, and workplace interaction. This includes short readings, video content, reflective questions, and self-assessment activities focused on current communication approaches and leadership effectiveness.

  • The program formally commences with a live, facilitator-led virtual session. This interactive introduction establishes the learning environment, outlines program expectations, and introduces the foundations of interpersonal communication and its role in leadership effectiveness. Participants begin exploring communication dynamics, listening behaviours, and the importance of clarity and alignment within workplace interactions.

  • Participants complete targeted prework designed to deepen awareness of personal communication styles and workplace interaction patterns. This includes reflective exercises, workplace observation activities, and preparation of real communication scenarios participants will bring into the workshop for discussion and application.

  • Participants complete reflective and application-focused activities linked to the implementation of Workshop 1 learning within their workplace context. The prework encourages leaders to reflect on workplace communication challenges, team interactions, stakeholder conversations, and opportunities to apply interpersonal communication principles more intentionally and effectively.

  • The second workshop builds on foundational learning and focuses on strengthening the leadership behaviours and communication strategies required to communicate effectively over time. Participants deepen their capability in leading difficult conversations, strengthening collaboration, improving stakeholder engagement, and maintaining communication clarity during complex workplace interactions. The workshop includes practical frameworks, facilitated discussion, and applied leadership activities designed to support sustainable behavioural change and stronger communication outcomes.

PROGRAM IMPACT

The Leading with Interpersonal Communication Program strengthens leadership capability to communicate with greater confidence, clarity, and effectiveness across workplace environments. Participants develop stronger awareness of how communication behaviours influence relationships, engagement, collaboration, and leadership impact.

The program supports leaders to move beyond reactive or inconsistent communication approaches and develop more intentional, adaptable, and relationship-focused communication capability. Participants strengthen their ability to listen actively, communicate with influence, and create greater alignment within teams and stakeholder relationships.

At an organisational level, the program contributes to stronger workplace relationships, improved collaboration, increased communication consistency, and enhanced leadership effectiveness. Leaders are better equipped to create environments where communication supports trust, engagement, alignment, and high-performing workplace cultures.
