Program overview
The Team Leader Development Program is designed to build the practical leadership capability required for team leaders to effectively lead people, support performance, and create positive team environments. Delivered by the Australian Leadership Academy, the program equips leaders with the tools, mindset, and communication capability needed to succeed in frontline leadership roles.
The program recognises that team leaders play a critical role in shaping team culture, workplace engagement, and day-to-day performance outcomes. Participants strengthen their understanding of leadership behaviours, communication approaches, and interpersonal effectiveness while developing greater confidence in leading others within fast-paced and evolving workplace environments.

Through a practical and highly interactive learning experience, participants explore how to build trust, strengthen accountability, navigate workplace challenges, and support team performance. PROGRAM DELIVERY
The Team Leader Leadership Program is delivered using the Australian Leadership Academy’s blended, experiential learning approach, combining self-paced prework, high-impact facilitated workshops, applied application, and reflective learning. This structured approach ensures participants arrive prepared, maximise in-session learning, and actively apply leadership capability within their own organisational context throughout the learning journey. Each stage is intentionally designed to progressively build capability while reinforcing practical workplace application and sustained leadership impact.

Participants begin their journey with a curated set of prework activities designed to introduce foundational leadership concepts and encourage early reflection. This includes short readings, video content, and guided questions to prompt thinking about current strengths, leadership aspirations, and workplace challenges. The prework ensures all participants commence with a shared baseline understanding and a strong readiness to engage.

The program formally commences with a live, facilitator-led virtual session. This interactive introduction sets expectations, establishes the learning environment, and connects participants to the broader purpose of leadership. Participants are introduced to key frameworks and begin exploring the transition into leadership, including the mindset required to effectively lead self and others.

This includes short readings, video content, and guided reflection questions designed to build awareness of personal leadership style, day-to-day leadership behaviours, and their direct impact on team performance and relationships. The prework ensures participants commence the program with a shared baseline understanding and readiness to engage.

This module supports participants to better understand themselves as leaders by strengthening self-awareness, accountability, and leadership insight. Participants explore leadership behaviours, personal strengths, growth opportunities, and the distinction between leadership and management within a frontline leadership context.

Participants complete reflective activities focused on communication and relationships within their team and broader workplace. Prework encourages consideration of how trust is established and maintained, how expectations are communicated, and how clarity and consistency influence team coordination and engagement.

Participants develop stronger interpersonal capability through practical strategies that strengthen communication, rapport, trust, and workplace relationships. The module explores communication approaches and relationship dynamics that improve collaboration, engagement, and leadership effectiveness.

Participants reflect on the dynamics, culture, and performance of the team they currently lead. Activities support identification of strengths within the team, as well as challenges affecting collaboration, accountability, and consistency of outcomes, with a focus on practical leadership responses.

This module focuses on the foundations of strong team culture and performance. Participants explore trust, accountability, healthy conflict, alignment, and collective responsibility while developing practical strategies to improve team effectiveness and workplace culture.

The prework focuses on strengthening capability to build ownership, improve performance, and support individual and team growth through everyday leadership interactions.

Participants learn practical coaching approaches that support stronger conversations, greater engagement, and improved team development. The module strengthens capability in listening, questioning, perspective building, and empowering others through coaching-based leadership approaches.

Participants reflect on challenging conversations and communication situations within their team leadership context. Activities focus on feedback, expectations, and approaches to addressing performance, behaviour, and accountability in a clear, consistent, and constructive manner.

This module develops confidence and capability in leading constructive workplace conversations. Participants strengthen skills in feedback, accountability, behavioural expectations, and navigating difficult conversations using practical communication frameworks and leadership strategies.
