PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Latrobe City Council
Team Leaders Leadership Program
Building on the successful structure of earlier programs, ALA’s agenda-setting process was used to empower Team Leaders to surface and explore their most relevant adaptive leadership challenges.
This ensured the learning experience was grounded in the real-world context of frontline leadership and aligned to the Latrobe City Council Leadership Competency Framework.
Key areas of focus included leading with personal responsibility, values-based leadership, effective communication, applying a coaching mindset, and holding high-performance conversations.
The program placed strong emphasis on cultivating a high-performance leadership culture among Team Leaders—one built on accountability, collaboration, and shared vision.
Team Leaders were supported to lead with confidence, strengthen team engagement, and actively contribute to a positive, unified organisational culture across Latrobe City Council.

Team Leaders Leadership Program
Latrobe City Council engaged the Australian Leadership Academy (ALA) to deliver a tailored leadership and high-performing team program for Team Leaders.
The program extended the leadership development pathway already established for Executives, Managers, and Coordinators, and was designed to strengthen leadership capability at all levels of the organisation while fostering a consistent, values-driven leadership culture.

Program outcomes
Leading Self
Team Leaders deepened their self-awareness and aligned more intentionally with the organisation’s values. They reflected on their mindset, behaviour, and energy, recognising the impact these elements have on team dynamics and performance. A strong commitment was made to modelling organisational values and using feedback as a catalyst for personal and professional growth.
Leading with Effective Communication
The program enhanced Team Leaders’ ability to communicate with clarity, confidence, and empathy. They developed skills in active listening, asking purposeful questions, and adapting their communication style to meet the diverse needs of team members. This supported stronger relationships, improved collaboration, and more meaningful engagement across the organisation.
Leading High-Performing Teams
Team Leaders explored the foundations of high-performing teams, including trust, healthy conflict, commitment, accountability, and results. They identified their role in shaping a positive team culture, fostering collaboration, and enabling performance. The distinction between managing tasks and leading people was reinforced, along with the importance of role modelling consistent, values-aligned behaviours.
Leading with High-Performance Conversations
Team Leaders developed confidence in adopting a coaching mindset. They identified practical ways to embed coaching into everyday interactions, enabling more open, future-focused conversations. This shift supported greater empowerment, accountability, and team engagement, while building a culture of continuous learning and feedback.
Practical Integration and Ongoing Development
Team Leaders applied their learning through real-time experimentation, reflection, and peer learning. They began embedding new leadership practices into their daily work, engaging in more constructive conversations, and supporting team development through trust-based relationships. Their ongoing commitment to growth positions them to lead with purpose, adaptability, and impact.
